How did AU Connect help you?
Posted by Joseph Wurcher on December 3, 2006
Here are the stats: 2870 AU 2006 attendees logged into AU Connect at least once. On average, every user logged in 5 times and spend 8 minutes on the site. From what I have seen of the online survey that was filled out on-site at the event, AU Connect users are more satisfied with the AU Connect experience then it is important (4.0 vs 3.8 out of 5). This are the stats. Now, I would really like to hear your experience with AU Online. Is this something we should have again for next AU? What make it more useful to you? How many folks did you end up meeting at the event that you made contact with on AU Online?

My thoughts – this is a good idea, but seems to have suffered from lack of use. It’s my first time to AU, and I think it is the 1st time for AU Connect, but not sure. I’d suggest doing it again next year, for additional exposure may well be just what AU Connect needs to really start connecting people.
Also, I found that I had more interest in contacting people I knew of through AUGI newsgroups than people who were in my “sphere”. I wanted to further connections already loosely in place rather than create completely new ones. Perhaps overlays of AUGI newsgroup membership in the considered fields?

I totally agree about the AUGI comments. This was my second AU and was much richer in terms of networking for me after being active in AUGI forums over the past year. I met a ton of people I see posting regularly. Perhaps AU Connect could be opened pre-registration for potential attendees? I think it needs more time between when it opens and the actual AU. I think it’s a great idea with lots of potential. I did browse around a bit but looking at the forum activity, it did look a bit “dead”. There was much more activity in the AUGI forums. I think perhaps it should be integrated in AUGI and also serve to promote AUGI membership. I know I’d use it much more often.

Hi, I used AUC and did manage to meet several people I probably wouldn’t have. Unfortunately missed two that I’d have liked to meet
I think the on-line part of it is great but it falls down trying to arrange meetings etc once on-site. As you don’t really know the layout (will be easier next year!) perhaps there could be defined per floor/area AUC meeting spots to make it easier to find people. “Meet you at AUC1 – between session xy” type thing.
Also wonder if the AUC should be integrated into AU Registration with an opt out, rather than opt in model.

I like AU connect, but I wish it was tied into the community site. It is redundant to have to login two different places.
